I will be continuing my beginner and advanced classes at Saffron, and starting June 24th, will be adding an upper level ATS class at Saffron.
The class beginning June 24th will be an 8-week session for people who already know belly dance, and just want to learn the ATS technique, movements and performance format. We will start in this class from your firm foundation in belly dance and add the ATS technique to your skill set.

Tribal 1 Technique & Drills: American Tribal Style

In this class, you will break down belly dance posture for ATS movement, learn the basic slow and fast movements fundamental to Pure ATS and be introduced to ATS improv format and zilling. Movements will include Taxeem, Hand Floreos, Body Wave, Egyptian, Arabic, Hip Bump Combinations, Shimmies, Turns and other basic movements used in professional ATS improv. In this class, we will learn just how ATS dancers move! Zils are required for this class.
Intermediate-Advanced Class @ Saffron Dance:
Tribal 3 Technique: American Tribal Style
7:45 to 9:15 pm Wednesday @ Saffron Dance
** This class includes a 1/2 rehearsal each week to prepare for performance venues.
In this class we will learn how to take ATS movement and streamline your communication with each other according to the ATS format so that you can become prepared to dance with an ATS belly dance troupe. We will solidify your knowledge of cues and transitions and ATS performance formats so that you can enhance your ability to communicate with your fellow ATS dancers on the dance floor and create the amazing group improv that ATS is famous for. In the class we will introduce advanced variations to the basic ATS movements, introduce ATS advanced movements, streamline the ATS improv format so that you will be prepared to lead or follow with any ATS dancer, introduce partnering movements and advanced cues and transitions, and fully integrate zilling into all fast movement. Movements learned in this class will include calibrated spins, fades, advanced ATS combinations, floorwork, head balancing, and belly rolls. Zils are required for this class.

American Tribal Style Performance Workshop
8:15 to 9:15 pm Tuesday @ Saffron Dance
This workshop series is intended for intermediate or advanced belly dancers, who are interested in learning the ATS format or for ATS dancers who are interested in a review of the ATS format. This class will assume knowledge of vertical figure 8s, ¾ shimmy, camels, body waves, snake arms, hips on the up and on the down, spinning basics, shoulder shimmy, and comfort in dancing with zils. In this series, we will learn ATS stylization for belly dance movement, movements specific to ATS, ATS cues and transitions, the group improv format, and zilling for ATS. This class will build on your firm belly dance knowledge and will provide the ATS stylization and format. We will also introduce advanced ATS movements as time permits. Zils are required for this class.

Jennifer has been studying American Tribal Style belly dance since 1996 with creator Carolena Nericcio, and became FatChanceBellyDance General Skills certified in June 2006. Jennifer continues her study with Carolena and will be repeating her General Skills Certification in September. Jennifer has also been accepted into Carolena’s prestigious Teacher Training program, and will be completing this in September as well. Jennifer has a strong connection to maintaining the authenticity of Pure ATS so that dancers can leave the classroom confident that they have received reliable, consistent Pure ATS instruction, so that they can dance with anyone in our global ATS tribe. Jennifer is dedicated to developing American Tribal Style belly dance technique for students and this format’s presence in the Washington, DC area. Jennifer is the Co-founder of Pure ATS dance troupe, Sammati, and is also an active board member of DC’s community tribal belly dance collective, DCTribal. During the day, Jennifer is a socially responsible investment advisor.
