World Music Folklife Center hosts their 3rd annual Balktoberfest, a festival celebrating Balkan and European culture with over 12 performing groups, live music all night long, delicious Balkan mezze and grilled foods for sale, beer & soft drinks, and open dancing. This year's event will be held at St. Andrew's Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Silver Spring, offering new opportunities for outdoor activities as well as indoor entertainment.
Sample delicious Balkan food while being serenaded by wandering musicians in the outdoor tent, then join us inside to shop the Balkan Bazaar for traditional music, crafts and clothing, listen to live music and dance all night long.
The only event of it's kind in the DC metro area, Balktoberfest is an alternative to other "Oktoberfest" events. With an emphasis on celebrating Balkan culture, music and dance, this fun, family friendly event, offers an inexpensive evening of good food, great music and open dancing.
!!!!!!This year's event features a special performance by internationally known and 4-time invited guest to the Dragachevo Brass Festival in Gucha, Serbia, Zlatne Uste - one of the foremost presenters of Balkan dance music in the United States!!!!!!!!
A portion of proceeds from the festival go towards World Music Folklife Center programs and Search for Common Ground (SFCG), a DC based nonprofit who's mission is to transform the way the world deals with conflict. For more info on SFCG, check out www.sfcg.org
Bring your friends for a Balkan good time!
Afternoon activities(between 4pm-6pm) are free. Evening admission, beginning at 6pm is just $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and students with valid ID, and kids under 18 are free!

World Music Folklife Center is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering understanding of cultural traditions and heritage through folk music and dance, preserving folk traditions through education programs for the general public, and enriching the local community by sponsoring Master Artists from around the world to teach & perform their traditional music/dance in the local Baltimore/Washington area
We also support giving humanitarian aid to those displaced and/or impoverished populations from where these folk traditions originate.
